CR Inspects Mubende Courts
HW Sarah Langa, Chief Registrar (4th Left) with the staff at Mubende Court
The Chief Registrar, HW Sarah Langa, on Thursday August 26, 2021, visited Mubende High Court and the Chief Magistrates Court for an inspection exercise.
She was received by the Deputy Registrar, HW Kaweesa Godfrey, Chief Magistrate, HW John Francis Kaggwa and Magistrate Grade One, HW Marion Ninsiima. The trio led her on a guided tour of the court premises.
It was observed that there were space constraints since the court premises are shared between the High Court and Chief Magistrate’s Court.
As a result, there is no dedicated space for an exhibit store while the archives room is full to capacity. The lone toilet serves both the judicial officers and members of the public.
While the court has been in existence for more than 10 years, there is no signpost leading to it. Other challenges noted included the need for staff to be trained in IT, procuring an alternative power source, installing running water at the Court and the need for a photocopier.
The Chief Registrar recommended that the Court should be cleaned more thoroughly. Regarding the archives of CM Court, she emphasized the need for these to be rearranged according to the model already existing in other Courts to enable quicker access to the files.
HW Langa equally commended the Mubende team for developing a performance monitoring tool for Judicial Officers across the circuit and the great team work exhibited.
On the issue of space constraints, the Judicial Officers recommended that the space at the Court be used for extension of the building and putting up other toilets.
The CR concluded her visit by paying a courtesy call on Judges, Hon. Lady Justice Eva Luswata and Hon. Justice Emmanuel Baguma who are handling election petitions in Mubende.
